Wednesday, January 25, 2012
Tyrant Tumultuous Tabby Debra Jean Hopkins Vista, Calif.
My cat's name is Tyrant Tumultuous Tabby because he IS a tyrant (he insists on having the dinner from MY plate), and our relationship is tumultuous. He constantly pounds on my bedroom window with his paw at 3 or 4 a.m. so he can stare at … nothing!
 Spidey the cat |
Spidey Bill Koranda
Our cat is named Spidey. We found her as a kitten, all dull and dirty. We brought her home and, while cleaning her up, my wife said "With those long legs, she's like a spider monkey." Spidey is really both spider and monkey - she pounces and likes to climb.
Soapy Dove Bubbles the cat |
Soapy Dove Bubbles Diana Marie Maduzia Barrington, Ill.
My cat's name is Soapy Dove Bubbles. "Soapy" was chosen for her fascination when I wash dishes. "Dove" was chosen due to the sound she makes which my husband and I think resembles a mourning dove (oo-waoh). "Bubbles" was chosen to express her effervescent personality. I love her!
Sir Niles Pinkston of Chelsea II the cat |
Sir Niles Pinkston of Chelsea II Judy Polstra Plantation, Fla.
Sir Niles Pinkston of Chelsea II is a 5-year-old Siamese rescue from the Humane Society. His previous owners left him when their home was foreclosed on. The Humane Society called him Pinky. We thought he needed something more dignified and wanted to keep part of his HS name. I was always a fan of the show Frasier, and we live in a neighborhood called Chelsea II.
 Novel Paige the cat |
Novel Paige Tracy Paige Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada
My shorthair cat is Novel Paige. My last name is Paige, so hers is, too. I work in a library, so I wanted something "booky" for her name without going for the obvious.
 Gadget Mayhem the cat |
Gadget Mayhem
My cat's name is Gadget Mayhem. He was rescued from the pound last June. I named him gadget because he is marked funny, he's so cute, and he doesn't have a tail. His middle name is Mayhem because he creates chaos wherever he goes. I adore him!
Social Skills Boy Braden the cat |
Social Skills Boy Braden Kathy Braden Louisville, Ky.
He will sit on our other cats and get in odd situations. He just doesn't have a clue! He also likes to give continuous baths to the other cats. We kept saying that he needed some serious social skills, and the name stuck.
 That's It the cat |
That's It Karen Smith Colorado Springs, Colo.
Our teenage daughter had clearly lost patience with her cat-crazy parents when we brought home our fourth cat. As we brainstormed names, she said, "That's it!" "That's it?" we asked. "Yes," she announced. So when anyone asks how many cats we have, I can say "Three - and that's it!"
 Malfunction the cat |
Malfunction Sheryl Orren Aliquippa, Pa.
Six years ago, I was watching a friend's kitten for the weekend. His name was Kitty then. Six years later, I still have him. My little guy looks like his legs are on backwards because he was born with a deformity. Ask him his name, and he'll say, "Mal."
 Blarney Ruckus O'Reilly the cat
|
Blarney Ruckus O'Reilly Mary Feller Oak Creek, Wis.
My cat's name is Blarney Ruckus O'Reilly. I adopted him from a shelter a year and a half ago. I wanted him to have an Irish name that fit his personality. He creates a ruckus a lot and Blarney and O'Reilly are just cool Irish names.
 Bananas Foster the cat |
Bananas Foster Mary Foster Burlington, Ky.
My cat's name is Bananas. Bananas Foster, to be exact. He lives up to his name in every way. He is absolutely bananas with his wacky, entertaining behavior, yet is capable of being super-sweet like the sugary dessert of the same name.
Knox Kitty Citizen the cat |
Knox Kitty Citizen Judy Divelbiss Fredericktown, Ohio
Knox Kitty Citizen came into my life when I was editor of our weekly newspaper, the Knox County Citizen. Knox visited the newspaper office daily and got attention by standing in front of the computer screen and sleeping on my desk with a wrist rest for a pillow.
 One O'Clock the cat |
One O'Clock Shirley Gustafson Baroda, Mich.
Two years ago, I noticed this cat hanging out on my deck. One day, while petting him, I spoke aloud to him saying, "Anyone else would call you Midnight, but I'm going to call you One O'Clock. The name stuck.
 Scuttlebutt the cat
|
Scuttlebutt Kathryn Ralston Succasunna, N.J.
"What's the scuttlebutt?" is a phrase used in the Navy that means rumors. Scuttlebut was born on my boat by a feral female while the boat was parked in the backyard for winter. When I uncovered it in May, there he was. I wanted a name that somehow went with boats.
 Watermelon the cat |
Watermelon Faye Hooprich Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Because of her unusual horizontal stripes, we chose the name Watermelon for a young, female cat who apparently lives in our neighborhood but makes frequent visits to our house where she marches in, plays with our cats' toys, eats some of their food, ignores us humans, then saunters out.
